Le Vent du Nord Newsletter - FEBRUARY 2008

In support of the European release of the Dans les airs CD, Le Vent du Nord has just completed a tour of France and Scotland that was full of exceptional musical encounters.

A CROWD-PLEASING DOUBLE BILL
January 19 was premiere night for Le Vent du Nord (Quebec) and Flook (UK), who shared the stage of the Théâtre municipal de Coutance (50). Both groups were giving their first venue performance on French ground. The occasion attracted 700 people, and they got their moneyÕs worth, as we say!

TRACES OF "OLD" FRANCE AT THE FÈTES DE L'ÅNE IN SENS
Following up on a concert broadcasted in 2005 by Radio-France that featured Le Vent du Nord alongside Ensemble Obsidienne (FR), Le Vent du Nord performed on the 20th of January as part of Fètes de l'Åne, a festival reinstated since 2001 by Emmanuel Bonnardot and his cohorts. The group's music added a special touch to the annual event, which blends medieval, traditional and contemporary music, serious and popular music, with a focus on feeling and authenticity.

DANS LES AIRS AND DIALOGUE
Upon invitation from the Théâtre de Cornouaille in Quimper, Brittany (29), Le Vent du Nord delivered a stellar performance on January 25, together with Breton singer Yann-Fanch Kemener, classically-trained cellist Aldo Ripoche and stunning pianist Florence Pavie. The evening sparked a beautiful musical friendship, revealed a world of moving sensitivities and inspired modern music bringing together the song and music repertoires of low Brittany and Quebec. Efforts are under way to keep this creative work developing and to present this high-calibre concert again within the next few months.

LE VENT DU NORD IN SCOTLAND
Last January 26/27, Le Vent du Nord made a stop in Glasgow, Scotland, for the Celtic Connections Festival. This was the quartet's third invitation to the prestigious festival, and there is now a true love story between them and the Scots. Year after year, the guys entertain increasingly large crowds. As ambassadors, they have elicited fantastic bouts of enthusiasm, in front of hundreds of people, blowing Quebec traditions to the ears of an audience that came from all over Europe.
